String of pearls | Senecio rowleyanus is a creeping, perennial, succulent vine plant. It is grown mostly as an indoor pot plant and low-maintenance plant. It has small ball-shaped, green leaves grow on long stems or strings that can reach up to 90cms in length. When grown indoors, String Of Pearls can be expected to grow to be only 2 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 3 feet. The clusters of tiny, white, trumpet-shaped and scented flowers appear in autumn and will last for around a month. Senecio rowleyanus plant is an excellent ornamental for hanging baskets.

How to grow and maintain String of pearls:

Light:
Place string of pearls in a bright, sunny window, preferably a window facing west or south.

Soil:
It prefers Well-drained, compost-rich soils are best in a semi or fully shaded location.

Temperature:
From spring to fall, warm temperature between 70 – 80°F / 21 – 27°C. In winter, cool temperature between 55- 60°F / 13 – 16°C.

Water:
Water when the top half of the potting mix had dried out in warmer months. In cooler months keep genuinely dry, watering just every 4 to 6 weeks. Perfect drainage is essential, never leave the pot standing in water.

Fertilizer:
Fertilize your Senecio rowleyanus plant every two weeks with balanced liquid fertilizer mixed at half the normal strength. In winter, feed every 6 weeks.

Propagation:
Propagate string of pearls by taking 3-4 inch stem tip cuttings. Strip 3-4 leaves from the bottom of the cutting and place in or on moist potting mix and roots should quickly develop at each node. Mist the soil surface to avoid overwatering until the roots are established. This plant can also be grown from seed.

Pests and Diseases:
No serious pest and disease Problems. Mealy Bug and Two-spotted Mite can occasionally be a bother.
