Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa) is a perennial, ornamental, flowering house plant. It grows in elongated spikes up to 18 inches long that produce clusters of fragrant waxy white blossoms that bloom from the base towards the top of the spike. It has long, bright green leaves clustered at the base of the plant and smaller, clasping leaves along the stem. The unopened buds are pinkish but the blossoms are pure white, tuberose thrives in sunny spots and bloom in late summer. The blossoms will appear about 90 to 120 days after planting, usually, late summer or early autumn, removal of the blooms for house display will not harm the plant. It has three major varieties common, single flower, double blossom and semi-double blossom available for summer season and winter season separately. Locate your plants near patios, walks, decks or other living space so that the fragrant blooms might be enjoyed to the fullest.

How to grow and maintain Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa):

It thrives best in full sun for about six to eight hours during the day.

Polianthes tuberosa grows in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Tuberose prefers a soil pH between 6.5 to 7.

It prefers a temperature ranging between 21°C to 24°C / 70°F – 75° F. Do not allow the temperature to drop to 15°C / 59°F.

Water regularly and moderately, always keep the soil moist but never allow your plant to sit in water. Only water when the top of soil becomes dry.

Tuberose thrives with generous feeding during the active growth phase, add complete plant food once growth first appears and repeat fertilizing every 4 to 6 weeks.

It is propagated by seed or by division. Division of offsets after the plant has finished flowering in late summer.

Pests and Diseases:
No serious insect or disease problems. Watch for aphids.
