Euphorbia leuconeura  or Madagascar jewel can grow up to 6 feet high 2 Meters and lives for a long time as a perennial plant. It can grow indoors, as a typical houseplant, and is fairly easy to grow. It is developed as a houseplant for its attractive foliage, dark green leaves, with white veins when young.

Unlike many succulents, Madagascar jewel is less susceptible to over watering. It develops best in partial shade but tolerates full shade and is relatively easy to care for providing it is not exposed to cold drafts. When damaged the plant secretes a white fluid which is toxic, causes severe skin irritation and maybe a tumor-promoting agent.

How to care and grow Euphorbia leuconeura or Madagascar jewel?


It requires light shaded to part sunny places with some morning sun, evening sun and winter sun are ideal. Hot summer afternoon sun can cause leaf burn.


Standard mixes for succulents or fertilized soil mixed with bird sand or pumice gravel such as clay granules. Soil that drains water easily.


Euphorbia leuconeura likes it warm the year round with a winter minimum temperature of 15 °C (59 °F).


Water your Madagascar jewel once a week during the growing season. In winter, water once or twice a month. Increase the humidity in the air by placing the flower pot on a tray filled with pebbles and water.
